Houston, TX:  The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Foundation has recognized Ivo Nelson, Chairman of Encore Health Resources, with its Lifetime Achievement Award.  The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated value to healthcare through innovation, creativity and dedication to the healthcare information systems industry. The award was presented to Mr. Nelson today at the CHIME ‘09 Fall CIO Forum in Indian Wells, California.

“I'm flattered to receive this award and to be recognized by the healthcare leaders I've had the honor to serve for many years”, said Nelson.   “Obviously, my accomplishments are the result of being surrounded by great people.  This award is also for them and the many CIO's in this industry who have helped me understand what partnership really means."

For 27 years, Mr. Nelson has been a leader and an innovator in the healthcare industry. He introduced large-scale outsourcing to the provider segment of healthcare, and pioneered new approaches for improving clinical process through technology.

Mr. Nelson began his healthcare career with EDS. In 1988 he helped start Perot Systems, an outsourcing company founded by Ross Perot. In 1992 Mr. Nelson established Houston-based Insource Management Group (IMG), later renamed Healthlink. As CEO, Nelson grew Healthlink into one of the worlds’ largest healthcare information systems consulting firms.  Following IBM’s acquisition of Healthlink in June 2005, Ivo served as the leader of IBM’s Global Healthcare Provider business.

Today, Ivo Nelson is the Chairman of Houston-based Encore Health Resources, which he founded alongside company CEO Dana Sellers in January of 2009. Encore provides information technology consulting services to the provider segment of the healthcare market. “This is a significant time to be assisting providers who are working to achieve incentives for implementing healthcare IT”, said Nelson.  “Healthcare reform has given new significance to the use of IT in streamlining healthcare delivery.”
